On a trip to Nashville during the summer of 2012 with her youngest son, Kate Cooper happened upon Gigi’s on Broadway, the original Gigi’s Cupcakes. As Kate tells it, “It was love at first sight, and I stalked the store everyday for a week during my visit!”
After a little research it became apparent to Kate and her husband that Gigi’s would soon be bringing a smile to cupcake lovers in Winston-Salem. And, since opening in the Fall of 2012, there have been plenty of smiles in Winston Salem. Before she decided to bake cupcakes every day, Kate had already been in the food business for over a decade as the owner of one of Winston Salem’s favorite catering companies, Great Gatherings.
Kate and her husband Tim have three sons and are proud to call themselves North Carolina Tarheel fans. Their oldest son was team manager for the UNC National Championship team in 2009, and their middle son recently completed four years as a walk on for the team. The Cooper’s youngest son is quite the musician, and it was his interest in Nashville’s famous Music Row that first introduced the Coopers to Gigi’s Cupcakes. Her family agrees, “We owe alot to Music City!”
We love our customers.
“Winston Salem and the surrounding towns like Lewisville, Clemmons, Kernersville and all the others are filled with cupcake fans – now Gigi’s Cupcakes fans! We love meeting new people, and we’re proud of how quickly word has spread about out little cupcake shop. We’re baking every day, and we hope we’ll eventually get to meet every cupcake lover in this part of our great state!”
Kate’s daughter-in-law Jordan Cooper has been managing store operations since opening in the Fall of 2012. Jordan and her husband Bobby Cooper celebrated their wedding this Summer in Chapel Hill with their very own, family-owned, Gigi’s Cupcakes!
