Screen Shot 2016-04-11 at 1.05.09 PMGigi’s Cupcakes is excited to announce the opening of its newest store location in East Lansing, MI. Gigi’s Cupcakes, originally founded by culinary creator Gigi Butler, opened their doors for business this week. The new store is located at 1020 Trowbridge Road in the Trowbridge Village Shopping Center.

Gigi’s Cupcakes of East Lansing welcomed community members for Friends & Family night on Sunday, April 10 and a VIP Celebration on Monday, April 11 and officially opened for business on April 12.

Gigi’s Cupcakes of East Lansing is locally owned and operated by Gina Farhat. Growing up in East Lansing, Gina was the second child of seven siblings. Her family often shared quality time in the kitchen cooking and baking together. After graduating with an Economics degree from Albion College, Gina became a CPA and has lived in the Lansing area for years. She was first introduced to Gigi’s Cupcakes in 2015 when watching the hit TV show Undercover Boss that featured Gigi Butler as she went undercover in various store locations. Farhat fell in love with the store design, the unique packaging and the many signature flavors. She was immediately drawn to the idea of opening her own store in East Lansing.

“I’m very excited to bring Gigi’s Cupcakes to the greater Lansing area,” said Gina. “I look forward to being part of something new and special as well as bringing beautiful, delicious Gigi’s treats to the community where I grew up.”

The East Lansing location is planning a grand opening celebration in the weeks ahead where founder Gigi Butler will be on hand to meet residents.

“We love our location in East Lansing, and I know area residents are going to really enjoy having a Gigi’s Cupcakes in their neighborhood,” said Gigi Butler. “I can’t wait to get to know the community better and help them celebrate all of their special occasions.”

The new location is open Monday through Saturday from 9am to 8pm and Sunday from 11am to 6pm.

Gigi’s Opens in Wilmington, North Carolina

Marina Lee, owner of Gigi’s Cupcakes in the University Centre shopping center, describes cupcakes as a happy product, a product that brings a smile every time.

After nearly 20 years in operations with Cisco, much of it spent working abroad, Lee and husband, Maury Cole, were ready to settle stateside and take on a new challenge. Lee felt a franchise would provide her with the best recipe for success and when she had a chance encounter with Gigi’s Cupcakes founder, Gigi Butler, she immediately fell in love with her and her vision for the company.

Lee and Cole opened their first location in Briar Creek, near Raleigh, in 2011. They were No. 3 in sales nationally after their first year, and by the end of the second year they were No. 1. Just last fall they opened a kiosk at The Streets of Southpoint Mall in Durham.

“This has been a tremendously fun journey,” Lee said. “And we’re thrilled to be open now in Wilmington.” Lee said she had many requests to deliver cupcakes to weddings all along the coast of southeastern North Carolina from her Briar Creek location.

“Sometimes people were practically paying more for delivery than for the cupcakes, which was crazy,” she said.

Now, having a store in Wilmington will allow Lee and Cole to serve many more destinations along the coast.

“Connecting with the community is such a big part of what we do, and it’s so wonderful to be a part of making special memories for our customers,” Lee said.

Now officially open for business, Gigi’s offers a rotating menu of sweets, including gluten-free and sugar-free options. New spring cupcake flavors include Lemonberry, a lemon-raspberry combination; Nodini’s Coconut Caramel, inspired by Gigi’s grandmother; and Raspberry Buckle, just to name a few.Lee, who is a Make-A-Wish Champion, donated the profits from Saturday’s soft opening to Make-A-Wish of Eastern North Carolina.

Gigi’s Cupcakes is at 336 S. College Road and is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Team at Gigi’s Cupcakes of Jonesboro expresses their “View” about nurses

When hosts from the popular TV show ‘The View’ made light of the nursing profession following Miss Colorado, Kelly Johnson’s monologue about nurses during the 2015 Miss America Pageant, thousands of people took offense and jumped to the defense of nurses and the nursing profession. Social media was filled with hashtags and personal comments, as people expressed their disbelief that anyone could ever have a negative word about the nursing profession.

One particular comment from a host of ‘The View’ questioned Miss Johnson’s reason for wearing a stethoscope during her monologue during the talent portion of the pageant.

Mark Morgan, owner of Gigi’s Cupcakes in Jonesboro, Arkansas, (pop 72,000) decided it was time to reward nurses in his community. So, Mark’s team announced that every nurse who came into the store wearing a stethoscope the next day, received free mini cupcakes at Gigi’s in Jonesboro. Mark’s team extended the offer to doctors and other members of the medical community in Jonesboro, with just one condition – you had to wear your stethoscope!

The result?

When local cupcakes fans heard about this on Facebook, the sharing began and nurses all over Jonesboro got word. And, Mark and his team started baking! Most importantly though, there were many, many smiles that day on the faces of happy, happy nurses!

As Mark said, “Nurses and the entire medical community give so much to the people of Jonesboro, we would have baked all night to get them their free cupcakes.”
